Sukh Mahals evokes memories of RUDYARD KIPLING who not only stayed
here but found inspiration for his famous work KIM.
Bundi is admired all over the world for its splendid palaces and
monuments. Though there are quite a few Forts and Palaces in Bundi,
a name that boasts of a class of its own is Sukh Mahal, Bundi. The
erstwhile luxurious summer palace of Sukh Mahal, Bundi, Rajasthan,
India offers a glimpse of the bygone royal era.
The highlight of Sukh Mahal is a white marble chhatri. It stands
in the central part of the second storey's roof. Sukh Mahal in Bundi
holds the credit of playing host to the celebrated writer, Rudyard
Kipling, when he visited this place in the late 19th century.
Sukh Mahal in Bundi is located on the banks of Jait Sagar, popularly
called by the name of Sukh Sagar. Set amidst the lush background
of an attractive garden, this palace is a real treat for the travelers.
It is a common belief that an underground tunnel runs from Sukh
Mahal in Bundi to the old palace.
Bundi Sukh Mahal was built during the rule of Umed Singh. The objective
of this palace was to provide the princes a free hand in their activities,
away from the control of the Rao.
